(POST 4) - Our practise task

Potential Settings - As it's quite early on in the planning stages of the music video we haven't thought majorly into the potential settings. However, there a few ideas we have raised awareness to whilst planning the music video. For the starting scenes where most of the footage is based around just one off are characters and showing the depression stages. This links into the song and the lyrics in it. Therefore we are going to use dark rooms with low levels of light which will show his loneliness. We were also going to use packed streets which with editing will show no one interacts with him and therefore create the clear picture that he is alone. We could also use long country roads and fields of him walking through showing potential signs of suicide. When the woman meets the man the setting will change into a fun filled setting. For example bowling, cinema, park or any other potential settings. We are yet to decide on the final settings for the shoot so this is why the post seems indecisive.
Potential Cast - Below is one image of the first cast member. His names Will Ward and he is the same age as all of us. He's 17 years old and fits the role pretty well. We chose him because we believe he almost suites the voice of the singer, Logic, so therefore would fit the role quite well. He was prepared to be a part of the film which we decided to go ahead with and us him for the role.  Will is also available at most points over the half term which is when we will be filming the music video. There's need for Will to be available at most points throughout the half term so we can match the weather with the mood of the song.

Below once again is the second and final member of the actors we will be using in the music video. We chose to use Amelia after we had picked Will for the male actor. We thought Amelia would fit the role quite well as she is similar height to Will which will suite the acting part. If she was much smaller it would probably be harder to capture both of them in the way we wanted.  Amelia is also available at most points over the half term which is when we will be filming the music video. There's need for Amelia to be available at most points throughout the half term so we can match the weather with the mood of the song.

Potential Costumes - Firstly the costume of Will is likely to be quite a enclosed dress code. We will be using dark clothes (Mostly blacks) . This is because of the nature of the song and how he recovers from the depression. We will be looking to make Will wear a black hooded jumper as this shows he Is alone and by himself and doesn't have to worry about talking to others. However, he will be wearing clothes that show he cares about his appearance as he doesn't want to be judged. He will also most likely be wearing a black pair of jeans as well. He can then wear really whatever shoes he wants as that doesn't affect the plot to much. When he meets the girl you'll realise that he changes into a more smart appearance maybe like a casual shirt and jeans in comparison to his previously enclosed uniform. Then for Amelia we will be letting her wear whatever she wants really as her appearance doesn't;'t matter all that much. As long as she wears reasonably bright coloured clothes she will fit the role that she's playing in the music video.

Potential Props - In the film there isn't much need for props. However, one of the shots will include Will looking into himself through a mirror so we will need a mirror to be present in  one of the shots. We can use the mirror in a bathroom as he could be shaving then looks into the mirror at himself and gets frustrated and angered by his appearance or idea of what he's feeling is stupid. Apart from this there isn't really much need for any other props to be used. If we think of anything closer to the filming date I will address that in a future blog post.

Potential split between 'performance' and 'story' - The story line is obviously the main character changing his life around and how he does so. In this instance it will be changed by the appearance of the girl and how she changes his life around. The performance aim is to show as much emotion as possible from and between the characters. I think I will be able to portray their emotions with slick and professional looking camera shots.

(POST 3) - Research into existing student made music video's

1) The  variety of camera angles and shots shows creativity as the editors are willing to test their ability and show their creative instinct within this music video by giving fast shots of the different angles making you see this song in an original way. The variety of locations and times also shows a willingness and a creative approach to the video making it more enjoyable and more professional as the film is clear that it took a large amount of effort and time and the quality and creative aspect portrays that significantly.

2) A variety of locations are used in the clip to make the film more interesting and professional. Locations included are as follows: A secluded field, A dark, lonely alleyway, A possible funeral, A Gymnasium and a street, possibly set in a local town. Moreover, the times used in the clips are also varied, such as at Dusk, Late at Night and Mid-day to show the video is over a few weeks, however the times of day show its over a day contradicting the time of the event overall. The weather is also varied from cloudy to sunny and windy to still showing the season time but also linking the foggy wind when he is alone maybe portraying his overall, depressing mood showing professionalism and skill.

3)

variety of costume and props is also used to help identify class and status, age and gender to help the viewers understand the characters and the knowledge around the plot. The use of variety of costume helps understand the scene and also emotion in the characters mind such as, the use of the gym attire shows the character is into fitness and is determined to challenge himself or challenge someone else in an attempt for self defence against the previous bullies. Moreover, the use of chavy clothes portrays the stereotype that lower class are criminals. The use of suits and mixture of emotion and body language shows the characters are in mourn as well showing they are not the stereotypical criminals and they regret their actions.

4) The opposites used of the good guy and bad guy uses archetype as the mixed performances of the good guy and bad guy's perspective shows the viewers are on the good guy's side feeling guilt and remorse but likewise remorse and forgiveness as the bad guy shows guilt and asks for forgiveness. The narrative switches and their is no single narrative which helps base a balanced fair story on the event.

5) The sharp editing helps build the aggression tone for the scenes and the long cuts show the importance of the events which occurred helping the audience get the best out of their experience showing professionalism and creativity using a variety of editing skills.

6) the variety of camera shots used shows creativity again, as the wide range used helps the audience enjoy
the clip for the variety of shots but also helps view the cinematic in other dimensions from shots such as, close up, long shot, point of view shot, tilted shot, pan shot to add originality and creativity and entertainment for the enjoyment of modern day shots able to be used in focus.

7) I liked how the use of camera angles, editing and costume all contributed to help determine the genre of the film as they all used sharp, aggressive and short shots with costumes relevant to an action film to show creativity and intelligence and skills to help understand the video as-well as enjoy it However, The use of the music song did not correspond with the video itself and the characters wasn't strongest acting ability and their physical appearance didn't relate to their character they were trying to portray as the criminals didn't really look like criminals.

                                              .

1) the variety of camera angles, shots and edits shows creativity and quality as they  shows creativity as the editors are willing to test their ability and show their creative instinct within this music video by giving fast shots of the different angles making you see this song in an original way. The variety of locations and times also shows a willingness and a creative approach to the video making it more enjoyable and more professional as the film is clear that it took a large amount of effort and time and the quality and creative aspect portrays that significantly.

2) the setting is usually in their own home to show they only go out with other people and maybe be restricted to a social life. moreover, the locations show they are working class and seen as 'normal' despite their sexuality deemed indifferent and unpredictable. There getting ready scene in their bedrooms or bathrooms show a long time meaning a lot of effort and care for others showing the relationship is important likewise, their public image.

3) costume and props show variety of close usually for a date and evening wear but morning wear to get changed. smart casual attire but also props used to show them getting ready shows effort and time consumption to portray their care for their own appearance and also their date.

4) the narrative is creative as its unpredictable. with two main characters dominating equal screen time shows they are key and could be somehow connected by love however, at the end of the clip, the characters don't have a connection with one another and end with different partners from the same sexuality which is unpredictable.

5) the editing consists of long shots to show delayed shot to show detail and express the time compressed into making effort for the date and effort used to get ready to go out showing their personality and care for themselves and their date. the amount of shots were large meaning they were rushed and busy and life busy lives which goes with the stereotype of their age that they are busy people.

6) the camera angles are regularly used a point of view shot or close up to show the characters body language and emotions to portray love is this music videos as the two main characters have emotional  feelings for one another which mixes with the music video lyrics. The majority of camera angles also show variety and change showing these feelings are different and unpredictable and indifferent than previous feelings.

7) I liked the song choice and I believed the moral of the song and video played well with the lyrics and song choice, however I believe their was a lack in locations and props and the date was too short despite being main scene. apart from that it was a joy to watch and a good quality student music video.

1) the creativity of this video is executed perfectly due to a variety of camera angles, editing and colours used from which added quality and originality to the video which showed professionalism and skills needed to succeed in a2. the use of colour and black and white shows the ability to be creative with editing as well as camera shots and the use of colour for the drink in a black and white scene. also the use of added props that wasn't really there between his hands showed quality and skill but utmost creativity.

2) the setting and location is local and not very varied with around 3 different locations but the locations work well with the song and the script making it work. the lonely scenery works well with the key character as the song has a lonely vibe to it and the characters body language portrays this which the alienated location backs up. The setting is mid day and constant with no variety but the happy mood corresponds with the day as day time is the happiest time of day especially when its sunny.

3) the costume is dull and plain matching his original mood and also shows his working class and background which makes the location seem realistic. His hat shows its not summer but not winter. the variety of props such as the spray can, the drum, the bottle and the mic all show unrealistic props at the time but his overall mood shows he is happy which makes it acceptable and fun to watch to express and catch his mood.

4) the narrative sticks to his narrative from a simple switch from depressing mood from a vibrant, happy mood and it channels the mood through to the viewers. The video has more than one actor but it stays to one point of narrative and the video is based on expressing love for music.

5) the editing is really creative as it adds colours and variety of cuts but also adds originality by adding clips that are not there through his hand showing quality and professionalism. merging black and white with one primary colour as well was creative and shows importance to the props to help understand the narrative and the key characters feelings.

6) the camera shots are also varied with long shots, point of view shots, close ups, mid shot and also pan and tilted shots to show creativity and quality and originality. This makes the video more enjoyable as you are impressed by the effort and quality shown by the camera angles, movement and composition.

7) I liked the quality in the editing and camera angles and the quality of acting and effort put into the film however, I feel the variety of location was not as good and the props used didn't seem realistic and sometimes didn't really seem enjoyable but the quality of editing did make it impressive, just less entertaining.

1) creativity is shown in this video by a variety of ways. the use of colours shown, which is very vibrant and colourful  portrays the emotion of the music video and supports the song in a positive way as it makes the viewers happy and create a sense of satisfaction and emotion based on love and reminisce of past or present love encounters. The different locations and setting, including time of day also shows variety which is creative as the directors and creators put a lot of time to make the video more enjoyable and original as quality is on another level and the creativity shown will have a more positive influence on the feedback on the music video.

2) the variety of costume is limited, however, this is not important as only two events are apart of the film so different costumes are adhesive to the different scenes. The costumes are realistic and show the characters are working class are seen as 'normal' and are no different to the class and status of most viewers helping the audience relate and enjoy the video more.

3) the narrative comes from the man, who is also the boy from the past, alternating from the time periods to create background story fast and showing the relation towards both main characters leading up to the meet at the end as understandable to the audience and also enjoyable to watch as it pulls on heart strings and to the audiences like.

4) the editing helps build the story with sudden cut backs and merges with scenes to help the audience and viewers understand the characters and the story line behind the song. the fast shot length also helps build the story quickly and helps the viewers understand the story which ultimately, makes the music video more enjoyable.

5) the camera shots, angles and composition also are varied to make the music video more creative and original, proving better quality of the video and also more different as the music video has an affectionate tone with a romantic genre of music therefore close ups to show the characters eye contact, smile or facial expressions based on another characters presence as he/she gain physical attraction to one another. the camera shots are also tend to be better quality when time is present, however, when its the past the quality is blurred to show its in the past to show the difference which shows its the characters old self.

6) I liked the creativity in camera shots as it helped understand the background of the storyline and it coincided well with the music video which made the quality a lot better and also the film more enjoyable to watch. however, I would of liked to see more settings and locations as it location was limited but this cannot be acted on as its only a music video the time is limited and short therefore, overall this is a good quality music video.

(POST 2) - Researching Into Existing Proffessional Made Music Video's

Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3

Creativity - The music video uses cartoon animation which is creative because there aren't many other similar video's however the animation is very basic and uses one scene over and over again. Therefore the creativity is good but lacks with only one scene

Setting/Location - The location is set in a car and for the whole music video remains to be in the car compared to the setting which cant be stated due to the basic use of animation.

Costume/Props - The only part of costume we can see from the music video is the hoody the singer is wearing becuase it shows the top half of his body. The props we can see is a spliff the singer is smoking and a ring on his finger.

Mix of narrative and performance - The video is very basic therefore there isnt much performance to it because its on motion played over and over again so you cant really comment on the singers ability to act.

Editing - There has been a good level od editing used in this music video mainly to make the animation otherwise there is no further editing used. The amimation used was very detailed and creative for example smoke coming of the spliff and the detail on his eyes.

Camera Shots Angles and Composition - There is one basic camera shot used which is a close shot of the singer at the stering wheel showing there wasn't much variation used in the making of the video.

What you liked/didn't like? - I liked how they used animation in the video and the amount of detail they used in it, the animation it self was creative and orginal compared to the majority of music videos out there however there was one motion played over and over gain which couild of been better by having more scenes involved.

Ed Sheeran - Castle on The Hill

Creativity - The music video was good and had a wide variation to make it creative, for example having a back story to the video and still having the singer Ed Sheeran involved in the music video was well worked, also the locations were well used to fit the music video and they allowed the shots to long better with the fog in the background.

Setting/Location - The main part was used in a rural area with not much surroundings however it worked well with the idea of having a castle on a hill, they also used a few scenes in the car which worked well to add in variation to the music video.

Costume/Props - There was no props used in the video and the costume of the actors was basic and casual clothinh you would expect to see anywhere.

Mix of narrative/performance - The performance of the actors was good becuase they all had to be in time with each other to make the performance work. Ed sheeran played a strong part in the performance and done a good job doing it.

Editing - The main use of editing is cross cutting which is going from one scene to another which is when the group of people on the hill is cut to Ed sheeran driving a car

Camera Shots Angles and Composition - In this music video there was all kinds off camera shots used such as close ups, long shots and bird's eye view therefore it gave variation so its wasn't boring like the previous video

What you liked/didn't like? - I liked the variation of camera shots used and different actors being involved because it changes things up and prevents bordem half way through which happened with the previous music video. There was anything I disliked in the video becuase it worked well with the lyrics.

      Marshmello - Keep it Mello

Creativity - In this music video the main use of creativity is the costume of the dj as it links in with his name marshmello. Also the use of the mobility scooter gives originality because it's not what you expect to see, the video is creative due to the costume as the use of props which almost shows a day in the life on a dj.

Setting/Location - There are several location used in the music video which are the dj's house, a shop and a highway. The dj's house is used for him eating breakfast and hosting a party, the shop was used shortly to buy food and drink and finally the highway to get back to his house.

Costume/Props - Props used were a mobility scooter, bowl and spoon, marshmello's and corona bottles and the costume was the actor dressed up as a marshmello. The other singer was in casual clothing for costume.

Mix of narrative/performance - The performance of the singers was good because they acted like the camera wasn't on them which brought out more natural behaviour. Also the part towards the end of the music video where they look directlty at the camera shows good confidence and offered something different that they other music video's havent used yet.

Editing - The use of editing was very basic and the only main thing used was cross cutting between different scenes and times

Camera Shots Angles and Composition - There was also many camera shots and angles used in this music video such as close ups, medium shots and wide shots. Close ups were used towards the end when the singers were looking directly down the camera, medium shots were used in several times like the shop and driving scenes and finally the the wide shot at the very start when the actor wakes up

What you liked/didn't like? - I liked the creativity used in the music video there was serval things that made this better like the use of the mobility scooter and party scenes. I didn't like the lack of locations it seemed to be mainly the house which got boring towards the end.

Kid British - Our house is dadless

Creativity - There was no major creative scene used in the music video the main thing was that the lyrics fit towards the music video.

Setting/Location - the main location used was a house garden and streets of the town they live in. The house was used for the singers to be involved and the streets were used for groups of people to walk through and girls to get spoken to by police

Costume/Props - There was no props used in this music video and the costume was very basic it was just casual clothing and then the police man in his uniform

Mix of narrative/performance - The performance was poor becuase it was very boring to watch however the use of the back story was well fit with the performance.

Editing - The use of editing was very basic once again the main type used was cross cutting between the scenes of singers and the background story.

Camera Shots Angles and Composition - The camera shots used were very standard the main ones were medium shots and the odd close up, the use of camera shots was poor because they didn't use many therefore was no variation

What you liked/didn't like? - I didn't like the video as a whole I found it quite boring to watch due to a lack of creativity and use of props and costume compared to the other ones which I rated highly in those catergories
